Senior Storybook: Stories of Elders who Inspire

I love storytelling. I’ve pursued it in ways small and large: from interning in the editorial department at a local newspaper to crafting meaningful narratives for Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.

I want to share this outlet for expression with you.

As a nonprofit founder and writer, I’ve always dreamt of incorporating storytelling into Love For Our Elders’ mission, pumping out inspiring, creative, and important content that brings seniors into a different light, but the timing never felt right to put appropriate energy behind such an endeavor. With last month’s launch of our new website, loveforourelders.org, I know: today– November 8, 2019– is that time.

So, welcome to Senior Storybook! We’re not setting any strict limits or rules on what this space is or isn’t. We want to see this not as any old venture, but as an adventure that shifts and shapes itself as it goes, based on what you want to see!

To start off, we’ll be featuring dope projects by volunteers, new initiatives impacting the lives of our elders and most excitingly, powerful prose by guest writers highlighting the stories of special seniors in our lives who deserve recognition.

I’m thrilled that this idea I’ve had for so long is coming to fruition, but I’m equally thrilled to hand it over to someone who has tremendous skill, dedication and love inside her, Emma Suttell, who’s graciously blessed our organization since October 2018 as our first-ever intern, will be stepping out of her intern role to direct this initiative.

Emma is a profound storyteller, showcasing her talents through 85056 Magazine, Her Campus and Veterans Heritage Project. I’m in awe of her talents, and I’m excited to leave this project in her hands and see where she takes it. She’ll be sharing her own story soon to kick us off. I’ll follow!

If you’d like to share a story in our Senior Storybook, please send a piece with a relevant photo to Emma. I can’t wait to read, embrace and be inspired by your creations!
