Write a letter to brighten an elder’s day
Everyone deserves a mailbox full of love letters, and we’re on a mission to make that happen– we’ve sent 900,000+ letters of love around the world. So take a few minutes, sit down, and write a letter. Tell them about yourself, maybe share a joke or a riddle and let them know that they are loved.
How to write a letter
It might feel difficult at first to be writing to someone you don’t know. Our advice: just pretend like it’s a conversation! What kinds of things would you want to talk about with a stranger?
Our Guidelines:
1. Letters must be legible (large print), handwritten, and include no glitter. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your card as what you’d like to receive.
2. Avoid religion and controversial topics. Your letter should be meaningful to anyone
3. Embrace creativity! Recipients love it when the letters are personal. We encourage you to make your letters colorful and fun– photos, crosswords, and drawings are great!
4. Be kind & thoughtful. You can include a return address, but please do not expect a reply. We want to ensure recipients don’t feel burdened by the need to reply.
Fulfill February letter requests
Read this month’s bios and choose which of our elder(s) you’d like to write. All letters should be stamped and mailed with love by February 28, 2026. New elders are shared on the 1st of every month!
Pro tip: These addresses will be taken down at the end of the month, so address your envelope before you start your letter.
Celebrate Letter to an Elder Day with us! On or around February 26, write a letter! It’s an unofficial observance we started, now recognized by USPS, several national holiday calendars, and the Kelly Clarkson Show! Learn more
Charles
A note from Charles’s granddaughter: Charles lost his wife of 50 years, his beloved Judith, in May. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and family. A proud builder and business owner who is known for his strength, kindness, and the way he quietly takes care of others. As he learns to navigate this new season of life without his lifelong partner, your letters will remind him that he’s still surrounded by love, connection, and purpose—and that the foundation he built continues to stand strong.

Sandra
A note from Sandra’s daughter: Sandra is from Maryland and last year she lost her husband of 53 years. She has been struggling with loneliness since. She has been in and out of the hospital after heart surgery and 2 broken hips since he died. She also lost her oldest son unexpectedly in June of last year. She just seems lost and so alone despite the fact her children visit frequently. A reminder that she is loved by strangers would be a great way to lift her spirits.

Janice
A note from Janice’s granddaughter: Janice was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she still lives today. Growing up, she was the warm, loving, and endlessly creative heart of every holiday—her home always decked out with handmade crafts like little dolls and elves made from wooden clothespins. She made sure “Grandmom’s Candy Kitchen” was fully stocked with special treats for the kids at every celebration. Though she didn’t grow up with much, she always made magic out of very little. She loves Jesus deeply and has one of the most wise and forgiving hearts. Lately she has been losing her sight and is recovering from a broken hip. We can tell it’s really been bringing her spirits down—letters would mean the world to her and brighten her days more than you know.

Anne
A note from Anne’s Caregiver: Ms. Anne is 86 years old and full of warmth and wisdom. She lost her husband, her high school sweetheart, in 2021 and now lives in a loving personal care home. Her lifelong passions are reading and writing—she still reads a full book almost every day. She often reminisces about her days as a pen pal and how much joy it brought her. Though her hands aren’t what they used to be, she still longs for the connection of a handwritten letter. Receiving letters would remind her she’s still seen, valued, and loved.

Mike
A note from Mike’s friend: Michael, better known as Pastor Mickey, is an Army Veteran who is full of love, life and experience. He has been a pastor for many many years and he loves to preach. He is Bed bound, Blind and has diabetes. He loves people and preaching the word to anyone who will listen and let him uplift their spirits. We are often trying to get new diabetic recipes to keep his sugar from spiking and he enjoys tasting, lol. He wishes that he could be back in the pulpit, but unfortunately he has a condition which lessens his ability to speak and it can be hard for others to understand and hear him clearly. But he tries his hardest! He would love to have some correspondence to lift his spirits as he has lifted many.

She grew up in Mumbles before moving to London and later Coventry to complete her teacher training. She worked in Leicestershire and Coventry, and after retiring she moved to Norwich. Helen has been on multiple cruises and travelled to many countries around the world. A talented musician, she plays the violin, viola, and cello, and continued to play in orchestras well into her 80s. She would play the music for the local pantomimes. Evelyn
A note from Evelyn’s granddaughter: Evelyn is from Indianapolis, Indiana, and just turned 90. She still lives on her own, right next door to my parents. She is the oldest living member of our family and is very lonely after losing my Grandpa 10 years ago. We all visit weekly, but know after being married for 50+ years how hard it can be sitting in the house watching TV all day. She loves family, birdwatching, feeding the neighborhood animals, and learning new things. Facts about various locations in the world, animals, or random things would be so interesting to her. Letters of love would be just the thing she needs!

Ed
A note from Ed’s daughter: Ed is 85 years old. Until recently Ed worked at Home Depot and as an Uber driver. He’s worked his whole life. He has always enjoyed meeting different people. Recently he had a serious life threatening scare and his world has suddenly, dramatically changed! We learned he has advanced Leukemia. He has a rare, aggressive form. He has opted to have hospice care at home where his wife, Jessie, is his primary caregiver. He was born and lived in Chicago until 5 years ago. With his health changes he is mostly homebound and can no longer work or drive. It is much too hot to go outside. He can use some encouragement and suggestions to keep him engaged. He has a fun witty sense of humor, loves to read about true crime, hear stories about peoples’ lives, play games and watch the news and sports. He was an avid golfer, volunteered a lot and enjoys jokes and riddles.

Kim
A note from Kim’s granddaughter: Kim is 82 years old and currently resides in California. She tries to keep her mind active by learning new things and taking classes at her church and local community college, most recently, a pottery class! When she’s out and about, she always makes sure that she has cash on her so that she can give it when she comes across those in need. For her daughter's and granddaughters’ birthdays and Christmas presents, she always donates to local charities on behalf of them. It’s not an extravagant amount, but she does what she can. Her hobbies include drawing and reading, but she spends most of her time volunteering at her church. She’s a very positive person who always insists that she is okay so that she doesn't worry anyone, but as she ages, she isn’t able to do as much. Receiving a positive letter from others would make her day, especially because she puts so much energy into making someone else’s day.
