Everyone deserves a mailbox full of love letters, and we’re on a mission to make that happen– we’ve sent 750,000+ letters of love around the world. So take a few minutes, sit down, and write a letter. Tell them about yourself, maybe share a joke or a riddle and let them know that they are loved.
It might feel difficult at first to be writing to someone you don’t know. Our advice: just pretend like it’s a conversation! What kinds of things would you want to talk about with a stranger?
1. Letters must be legible (large print), handwritten, and include no glitter. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your card as what you’d like to receive.
2. Avoid religion and controversial topics. Your letter should be meaningful to anyone
3. Embrace creativity! Recipients love it when the letters are personal. We encourage you to make your letters colorful and fun– photos, crosswords, and drawings are great!
4. Be kind & thoughtful. You can include a return address, but please do not expect a reply. We want to ensure recipients don’t feel burdened by the need to reply.
Read this month’s bios and choose which of our elder(s) you’d like to write. All letters should be stamped and mailed with love by March 31, 2025. New elders are shared on the 1st of every month!
A note from Lee’s friend: Lee has been down lately. She had her second bout with cancer after 10 years in August and it’s an extremely rare cancer. She loves being a giver and never leaves home without giveaways in her purse for people she encounters throughout the day. She loves dogs and birds and does have a dog and used to have a lot of birds. She loves reading and creating crafts in her spare time. She could really use a pick me up from you!

A note from Olga’s neighbor: Olga is 82 years old. She is kind and sweet. Olga has a lot of hobbies and interests including singing, painting, listening to music (all genres) and playing games, like BananaGrams. She loves talking to friends and neighbors and sharing stories about her life. She especially loves telling jokes! Olga is a wonderful listener. Learning about other people makes her feel good so she would love to get a letter from new people to learn about.

A note from Wylene’s granddaughter: My grandmother is a strong caring woman. She is in her early 80s but still working as a nurse to take care of others. She likes to sell Avon, ride around town, and sit on the patio reading newspapers. She lost my grandfather two years back and her sister 6 years ago. She often thinks about it, which can sometimes make her sad but we like to cheer her up. March is her birthday month and I think this would be an amazing gift to show her that people in the world can give happiness!

A note from Mary’s granddaughter: My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a couple years ago, and though communication has gotten hard, she is still as fun as I can remember. She loves gardening, cleaning up, dancing, going for walks, and playing keepy uppy with balloons. She loves anything that has to do with flowers or pretty things, and you can often find her playing with my baby cousin, or walking through the halls, admiring the decor.

A note from Nellene’s daughter: She loves puzzles, bingo, and reading books. She loves to share the story of the book she is reading. Nellene is a widow and had a wonderful husband, Charles, that she lost over a decade ago. She is devoted to her children and grandchildren. She is a fantastic story teller and reading any letter from her is a joy. She loves plants, gardening, spending time on her patio enjoying her garden and potted plants.

A note from Diana’s granddaughter: My Nonna is originally from New York but retired 35 years ago and relocated to Pennsylvania with my grandfather who passed away last August. She loves animals and appreciates art. She enjoys talking about food and although there’s a lot that she can no longer eat, she’s usually interested in hearing about the recipe. She gets a kick out of seeing her great granddaughter grow. She is celebrating her 92nd Birthday in March, so please send all the Birthday love!

A note from Betty’s granddaughter: My grandma Betty is 89 years old. One of her favorite things to do is send and receive cards in the mail. When I was growing up, she never missed sending a holiday card and would always spend a long time picking out that “perfect” card. I know she would adore receiving her own mail to open and enjoy. Betty is on oxygen 24/7 now and can’t get around the way she used to. She has lived alone for many years now and could use some cheer. Betty is sassy, fun, bold, and tough. She enjoys animals (even spiders and snakes), action and thriller movies, sweets, photos, and the phrase “how do you like them apples?” Receiving letters would make her feel really special.

A note from Patricia’s granddaughter: My Grandma is 91 years old and was diagnosed with ALS a few years ago. She is unable to talk and has low mobility. She loves to sing, something she has missed recently, and playing games, specifically dominoes. She is a mother of 5 and helped create a successful farm with her late husband. She used to live in Marlette Michigan, but had to move in with me and my family after her diagnoses, and then just moved into an assisted living home so she could get the help she needs. She was a real estate agent in her hometown and loved to sew and make clothes. Since she cannot talk, she sits in her room for most of the day and gets very lonely, which is why these letters would really cheer her up.

A note from Kathy’s daughter-in-law: Kathy grew up in Ohio and worked as a dietitian at nursing home facilities around the greater Cleveland area until she retired. She has been an active member of the Catholic church and community, befriending the sisters and brothers of the church, leading prayers for the rosary and spent a lot of time with the church. She always gave generously, and hosted beautiful dinners for friends and family. She would really enjoy hearing from you!

A note from Barbara’s granddaughter-in-law: Barbara turned 90 in February and could use some extra celebration this year! She lives in Chicago in the house that she and her husband built about 60 years ago and is a die hard Cubs fan. She is a retired school teacher and professor and has traveled the world researching her varied interests like historic preservation, architecture, and comparative urbanization. A note from Mease’s daughter: My mom turned 95 years old in September is living in an assisted living home. She has been losing her mobility steadily this past year and she is now pretty much confined to a wheelchair. She lived on her own until she was 90, so this loss of independence is hitting her hard. She is originally from a small town in central Louisiana and she is a huge LSU Tigers fan. She now lives in Texas. She raised 7 children and although she can no longer do these things, she used to love to read, to crochet, going camping and to the beach and dancing.

A note from Irene’s daughter: My Mom is 82 years old. Her husband passed away in July. She has been very sad. She loves to garden, feed the birds and the deer, reads a lot, postcrossing and loves her iPad. She has 2 children, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Only I live close to her and try to see her often. She participates in postcrossing.com and loves to send and receive postcards. She used to quilt, but that has slowed down tremendously. A note from Karen’s friend: My elder friend has special needs. Karen has lived in communities for people with special needs her whole life. She loves all animals and nature. She does not have a lot of family but just loves receiving mail. It makes her feel loved. She is very organized and has kept every piece of art, letter, or card she has ever received. A note from Boyd’s granddaughter: My grandfather was born in Kentucky and settled in Washington State following his retirement from the US Army in 1993. He served a full twenty years and is most proud about his service time. He grew up in a poor farming family and was determined to make a bigger future for himself. He loves old country-western music, cowboys, cheese (he puts Kraft singles in everything he eats), democracy, and good company. My grandfather is a good man, but often lonely and under-stimulated. He really needs positive letters to remind him of his place in this world and that he is still loved even well past his prime. He is also celebrating his birthday this month so this will make it an unforgettable birthday.

A note from Marie’s great granddaughter: My great-grandmother lived in Mexico until adulthood and worked very hard to bring her three daughters to the United States. She just turned 90 years old in December. She is such a kind and wonderful woman, but right now she is struggling with a lot of pain from arthritis and a recent fall she had. I know that some letters would help her to feel less lonely, more loved, and more positive. She loves birds (she had many as pets when she could care for them), the color green, her family, and sweets. Another important thing about her is that we affectionately call her Gato/Kitty. She prefers Spanish.
