Write a letter to brighten an elder’s day
Everyone deserves a mailbox full of love letters, and we’re on a mission to make that happen– we’ve sent 900,000+ letters of love around the world. So take a few minutes, sit down, and write a letter. Tell them about yourself, maybe share a joke or a riddle and let them know that they are loved.
How to write a letter
It might feel difficult at first to be writing to someone you don’t know. Our advice: just pretend like it’s a conversation! What kinds of things would you want to talk about with a stranger?
Our Guidelines:
1. Letters must be legible (large print), handwritten, and include no glitter. No worries if you’re not artistic– make your card as what you’d like to receive.
2. Avoid religion and controversial topics. Your letter should be meaningful to anyone
3. Embrace creativity! Recipients love it when the letters are personal. We encourage you to make your letters colorful and fun– photos, crosswords, and drawings are great!
4. Be kind & thoughtful. You can include a return address, but please do not expect a reply. We want to ensure recipients don’t feel burdened by the need to reply.
Fulfill October letter requests
Read this month’s bios and choose which of our elder(s) you’d like to write. All letters should be stamped and mailed with love by October 31, 2025. New elders are shared on the 1st of every month!
Pro tip: These addresses will be taken down at the end of the month, so address your envelope before you start your letter.
Barbara
A note from Barbara’s granddaughter: Barbara (Bobby to her friends!) is a sweet, silly, shining star. At 83 years old, she's been struggling mentally after the unexpected loss of her loving husband and physically with her ongoing battle with cancer. She is currently undergoing radiation and is hospital-bound most days of the week. Barbara is a mother and rock to our family. She is a vibrant friend to all, moving with kindness, bravery, optimism, resilience, and gratitude through the good days and bad. She can beat anyone at a game of cards, and when her health allows, she loves dancing, Myrtle Beach, concerts in the park, swimming at the pool, cruises, hosting big family dinners, rom-coms, eating crab legs, and is a huge jokester at heart - I would love to bring back some of her optimism and joy with these cards, as she deserves and could use the additional support!

Ken
A note from Ken’s daughter: My 94 year old dad grew up with sixteen brothers and sisters in New York during the Depression. He is a Korean War veteran and was one of six in his company who survived while fighting in the Chosin Reservoir. He then served as a missionary to Indonesia for 37 years before retiring to Oregon. He now has dementia and spends most of his time sitting in his recliner reading, watching tv, and napping. He's very kind and has a sweet disposition. It would mean so much to him to receive letters from strangers. Because of his short term memory, your letters would be new to him every day.

Gloria
A note from Gloria’s daughter-in-law: Gloria is a kind, joyful widow. She was a missionary in India in her youth and was heavily involved in local churches for most of her life. She lost her husband four years ago and now lives with my husband, myself and five cats. She loves to laugh, appreciates snuggling stuffed animals and spends hours on the front porch watching the seasons come and go. She knits, reads and watches tv everyday. The sparkle in her eye is fading and I'd love to see it come back. She loves getting mail but it's usually just bills so this would be a wonderful change for her.

Floyd
A note from Floyd’s daughter: My dad is 75 years old and recently lost his wife of 46 years to Stage 4 Brain Cancer (aka: Glioblastoma). He was her caregiver from the moment she was diagnosed with cancer right up until the moment she took her last breath. Life has changed very quickly for my dad. He spent every minute with my mom and is now navigating life with me and my husband as we moved him into our home. My dad loves his two dogs, chocolate cake, coffee, taking naps, and long weekends at the casino. He is a retired Navy officer and never leaves home without his Retired Navy Veteran hat. The one-year anniversary of my mom passing was this past month and I know my dad could use some letters and cards to help lift his spirits.

A note from Doris’s daughter: My grandma has dementia and has had a lot of loss in her life. She’s Yugoslavian Polish, but English is preferred. She always likes to make people laugh. She’s sweet and loves animals; she grew up on a farm! Even though there are not a lot of us, her family is the most important thing to her. Adajune
A note from Adajune’s daughter: Adajune is 87. She has lived in Illinois and Ohio. She grew up one of eight children. Sadly, only three are left and none live close. I am her only relative in town and while I try to make sure she feels loved and cared for, it is difficult. She is an amazing woman who was a teacher, home economist, real estate broker, business owner, etc. She made gingerbread villages and sewed most of her clothes growing up. She was even in the Who's Who of Women in America. Her husband of 58 years passed away 5 years ago. She misses her family and her grandkids terribly. Please help her feel all the love she deserves with your Letters of Love!

Christine
A note from Christine’s granddaughter: A year ago my great grandfather passed away and since then my grandmother has been sad and lonely. She adores her grandchildren and gardening. She reads lots of romance and mystery books, and loves a good Hallmark movie! She loves the mountains and traveling. She was born and raised in Baltimore and still lives here! She enjoys Orioles baseball games and Ravens football. She's religious, and enjoys scripture from the Bible! She commits her whole life to her grandchildren, but there's still a void in her that creates loneliness. Letters from others that share her interests would be good for her to read and keep busy. October is also her birthday month, so feel free to send some birthday love!

Earl C.
A note from Earl’s daughter: Earl is 98 years old. Since his wife passed away 5 years ago, he is lonesome and totally lost without her. Earl is a retired instructor from a community college and used to be a jack of all trades. He still lives at home by himself and mowing his grass is about the only thing he feels he can do without help. He doesn’t attend church anymore as he has difficulty hearing. He lives out in the country, so there are days when he doesn’t see anyone. The nearest family is 2 hours away. Cards and letters would help him know others care about him and he is not forgotten.

Genoveva
A note from Genoveva’s granddaughter: Genoveva is 92 years old and is from the Philippines but now lives in Pennsylvania. She devoted her life to teaching, became a principal, and even after retirement, she continued sharing her love for folk dancing with public schools. She used to dance often and write letters, but she can no longer do so. She finds joy in flowers, prayers, and receiving letters. With all of her family spread out across the globe, she deeply misses each one of them. A heartfelt letter or card with a heartfelt note or prayer would mean the world to her and brighten her day.

Gwen
A note from Gwen’s granddaughter: Gwen is from Oklahoma, she is a super sweet woman who deserves the best! She loves the shows MASH, Andy Griffith, and Law and Order. She loves to drink coke, so anything that is around that theme she would love. She also loves to laugh and joke around with everyone she meets! She is a great conversationalist with the biggest heart! Her ultimate love is her family, but being so far away has left her lonely and with the very recent loss of her furry companion dog, Roxy, of 10 years she’s been very sad and lonesome. She could use some uplifting notes and messages.

Rosvita
A note from Rosvita’s daughter-in-law: Rosvita has lived in Minnesota for almost 50 years but is still an Austrian citizen. She is fluent in English and German. She loves watching downhill skiing (and used to be a competitive racer), cooking, writing short stories, gardening and opera. Unfortunately, since breaking her hip and other health challenges, she was forced to give up driving. Living alone, this has greatly impacted her mobility and independence. She has bravely battled chronic depression for years, but this is a new challenge for her. Most of her life has been dedicated to helping people with addiction. She loves to receive mail and believes letter writing is a lost art. She would be thrilled to see it still in practice. October is her birthday month, so she will feel extra special this year.

Robbie loves all things kids related - always saying her purpose was to be a grandparent and one of the best on earth to do it! She loves traveling, stories, nature and pets. She has always been very independent but last year she fell and broke her shoulder. During repair surgery she suffered a stroke and has been bed bound for 10 months causing severe depression. She enjoys reading books, has a fondness for dogs, and is a member of both a book club and a lunch club. But Kathy often finds herself feeling very alone. Mahlon & Lela
A note from their granddaughter: Mahlon and Lela are lifelong Northwest Ohio residents who have always embraced adventure—traveling the U.S. and beyond by RV and spending winters in Florida. Active in their church and countless social clubs, they were always on the go. Now in a senior living community, they deeply miss their busy, social lifestyle. Lela loves history, reading, and quilting, while Mahlon has a passion for diesel engines and draft horses. Lee
A note from Lee’s friend: At 103 years old Lee is clearly a force of nature. She still lives in her own home, has been attending dance class regularly, loves to garden, and reads the newspaper every day. A native of Portland Oregon, she has deep, life-long ties to the community. She married her husband Homer in 1940. He passed away in 2002. Together they raised three beautiful adopted children while Homer ran a law practice where Lee did the books. Lee has a great sense of humor and likes poetry, jokes and puns. Lately she has become frustrated with what she calls her lack of energy which has made it harder for her to get out and do the things she enjoys. I'm sure that cards in the mail will lift her spirits..

Joan
A note from Joan’s niece: Joan is 91 and is a proud Baltimore native whose greatest joy has always been her family. She lost the love of her life to cancer in 1997, and heartbreak struck again when her son passed away ten years later in a tragic accident. Despite these losses, Joan has continued to embrace life to the fullest, always showing up with her signature warmth and spirit. She keeps the post office busy, faithfully sending cards for every single holiday, each one with a thoughtful surprise tucked inside. Joan dedicated many years to working in the library. Joan loves cheering on the Baltimore Orioles. She doesn’t just watch the games — she keeps score with pencil and paper. Joan would love to receive fun letters and cards so she can feel the same love she has always shared with everyone else.
