Margaret

A note from Margaret’s daughter: My mother is beautiful and so strong. She worked a full time job until just two years ago, in a demanding job that she loved. In the last year she has had many losses, some very close friends, and her only son- my brother. She loves her family, including her grandchildren fiercely and she also loves a great joke, a good ‘dateline’ episode and she sings at karaoke every week! She needs a new hobby and something to look forward to day to day. Grammy (Margaret) turned 80 years old at the end of October, she would be overjoyed and share some extra laughs and smiles as she reads your letters.

A note from their daughter: My mom and dad are currently 91 years old. My dad is an ex-Marine and Korean War vet. They have 6 children, 14 grandchildren and soon to be 8 great-grandchildren. My dad is an avid reader and loves all non-fiction books related to history, especially war and notable political figures. My mom loves playing free cell. She unfortunately has early dementia and has short term memory loss. She was a 4th grade teacher for approximately 40 years. They are both Roman Catholic and are devout in their faith. They would love to hear from you!

Carolyn

A note from Carolyn’s daughter: My mother is 84 years old and she lives alone. She lost her husband back in 2016 and has remained a widow since. My mother always loved to travel. She’s traveled to many states throughout the country and she always has a story to share about either a funny incident, or some attraction of the area that she attended. My mother is going through a rough time and even though my brother and I live within 20 minutes away from her, we can’t always go to her house to see her. She doesn’t have many friends since the ones that she had has passed on, and I am thinking that if she received letters from people, that would fill her heart with happiness. Thank you very much.

Marji

A note from Marji’s daughter-in-law: Marji loves to watch cooking shows and reality TV. She loves to read the paper and magazines. She is from Quincy, Washington where she lived for her entire adult life, until her husband Curt, of 53 years, died a few years ago. So she moved to Albany, Oregon to live with her younger son and his family. She used to love taking drives with Curt and now she can't get out much and doesn't go anywhere by herself. She is only 73, but is sad about getting older and losing her husband. She is one of the nicest people on the planet and has always done things for everyone around her. She would love to receive letters and cards from people.

Frank

A note from Frank’s granddaughter: My grandfather is 81 years old and lost his wife about 10 years ago due to Alzheimer's. She was the light of his life and honestly, he has not been the same since. He loves to talk to people and I just want him to feel the love he gives to others. He has been pretty down more than usual lately. He loves sports, especially baseball. He loves the dodgers, history, and dad jokes. He loves some Italian food and will do anything to make his family smile.

Maureen

A note from Maureen’s daughter: Originally from Pennsylvania; now calls Indiana home. Enjoys crossword & jigsaw puzzles, solo card games, seeing her family all together. Maureen retired from a long career in healthcare in 2020, due to the global pandemic. She was already past retirement age at that point, but she deeply loved her job and caring for patients. Since retiring, she has slowly given up on living and on herself. She no longer sees that she has a purpose or anything of value to offer and her health is starting to wane, she could really use some encouragement and love from you!

Ellen

A note from Ellen’s daughter: Ellen likes to paint, and loves music. She was born in the pacific northwestern United states, and she still currently lives there. She has been a wonderful mother to me and has been my closest friend my entire life, always encouraging me, believing in me and supporting me in everything I do. She has had a lot of trauma and heartache in her life. She lost her husband in 2001, her closest sister a couple of years ago, and several more sisters recently. She has mobility and health issues, and has become increasingly isolated and lonely for the last couple of years. No one visits her but myself, and no one calls on the phone anymore. She has been telling me that she doesn't understand why no one cares about her anymore. It breaks my heart, because she is the most amazing, kind, thoughtful, funny, and brilliant person. She really needs some love from strangers to help put the sparkle back into her eye.

Grace

A note from Grace’s family friend: Ms. Grace is a lovely, kind-hearted person living alone in rural Southwest GA. Over 30 years ago, she lost her only adopted child in a tragic car accident. In 2021, Ms. Grace lost her husband, Carl, to illness and has been living alone ever since. Her health is declining and she is unable to get out or have visitors due to health risks. You can imagine how lonely and depressed she must be. I feel that receiving uplifting, encouraging letters would give her the emotional boost she needs to endure her isolated time at home. When she's feeling down, she will have these amazing letters as a reminder that she matters and is cared for.

Bob

A note from Bob’s granddaughter: Bob is a 99-year-old World War Two veteran from Michigan. He enjoys playing his trumpet, attending concerts at his facility, playing his airplane simulator game, and watching sports on TV. He currently resides at an independent living facility. Bob deserves a letter bundle because he is always smiling and welcoming to others and the move to the facility has been hard on his mental health. He has endured some health issues over the past year that have been challenging for him. His goal is to live to 100 and he is almost there! I believe that these letters would brighten up his life and provide him joy. He always loves to share his life story and he would love to hear and learn about others too.

Dorothy

A note from Dorothy’s granddaughter: Dorothy is a 93-year old from Kansas. She recently moved into a retirement home and is adjusting to not having her home she lived in for over 50 years and her loving dog, Bella. While she enjoys her new neighbors at the retirement home, she is still adjusting to not having her home, her things, and freedom to go out-and-about like she previously did. Receiving letters would mean so much to her and our family. She enjoys old western movies, talking about her 3 sons, and all things that have to do with crafting. She likes to read and do word-searches in her free time.

Joan

A note from Joan’s daughter: My sweet mom is 82 and she now lives with me because she has moderate/late stage Alzheimer’s and needs help with all daily activities. Lately she has been asking a lot about getting mail. I am her only caregiver 24/7 since Dec. 2023 when I had to move her out of a bad situation. She loves cats, dogs, bluebonnets, and singing hymns at church. She loves funny things and likes to be goofy at times and make funny faces. She does word searches in her free time. Reminding her to take her daily walks would be awesome. Jokes and photos of neat places would give her something to look at since she doesn’t have any hobbies. Born and raised in Texas, she’s travelled all over the US but those memories are hard to come by. She lived in Mississippi and Louisiana for a bit but Texas has always been home. She has a hard time reading, so short and sweet cards in large font work best. Having some mail will make her so happy.  Every day is a new day around here and her being happy keeps the agitation away.

Loberta

A note from Loberta’s daughter: My mother is home by herself a majority of the time and she has mobility issues and cannot go out to explore. She loves to laugh, loves Starbucks and enjoys talking to her grandchildren (7). She is one of 2 remaining relatives on her side of the family and is struggling to find ways to be active in the community. She just needs a friend that she can chat with and someone outside of her children she can reach out to and have a good laugh with. Your notes could help fill her day with happiness!
