A thank you from Evelyn’s loved ones: “Evelyn loves her letters! When she opened her bundle, she was so excited and blown away that there were so many strangers in the world who would care about her. She just kept saying, ‘wow, there are so many kind people left in the world.’” Read more
Waneta
A note from Waneta’s granddaughter: Waneta has had some physical and health challenges over the last year that have left her chair bound in an assisted living facility. Despite this, she has bounced back from these challenges and is doing well at 86 years old. Though we try to visit her as much as possible, she struggles being on her own and is always looking for a pick me up. Her favorite things are butterflies, visits from her great-grandchildren, and letters from friends and family. She would love to hear from new friends!

Maria
A note from Maria’s daughter: Maria was a refugee from Hungary in the 50s. She and her husband escaped the communists in the dead of night. They settled in Greenfield and raised three of us children next door to a couple who looked out for them over the next several decades. After both husbands passed away, Maria and Doris spent every evening together watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and sipping a glass of wine. Since Doris passed away last year, Maria has been so lonely and sad. Her health isn’t the best but she still lives alone and does a good job caring for herself. I think letters of love will brighten her days.

Sally
A note from Sally’s granddaughter: Sally loves to write letters! She writes about 10 letters a week to her grandkids, children, and friends across the country and even the world, filling them in on her life, telling funny jokes, and sharing memories! They bring so much joy to the people who receive them, and though she never expects a letter in return, she also loves receiving a handwritten note. She is 85 years old and lives in a senior life community in Ohio, where she thrives like the social butterfly she is. Aside from letter writing, Sally spends her time doing puzzles, hosting dinners, going to exercise class, volunteering, watching game shows and cheesy romance movies, and praying for her loved ones. Her 6 children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren are her pride and joy!

Pat H.
A note from Pat’s granddaughter: Pat is 82, still as feisty as ever, and is the glue that keeps the family together. She loves to sew, craft, and read (still a young soul with the books). Pat lost her husband of over 60 years a few years ago and keeps her days busy helping care for her great grandchildren. I know her days can be busy, but coming home to an empty house can be hard. She has been there for everyone else around here and I'd love to give back as much as we can!

Marilyn
A note from Marilyn’s granddaughter: Marilyn is originally from Fresno, CA but moved to LA to attend UCLA and has lived there ever since. Marilyn loved playing tennis, golf, and traveling with her family and friends, and in her older age has settled into watching movies on TCM, reading (and re-reading) every Agatha Christie novel ever published, playing bridge, and having lunches with her family when they can. She lost her taste and smell to COVID in early 2021, following the death of her husband in 2018 and her eldest daughter in 2020. Her dog, Rocky, is obsessed with her and loves keeping her company, but despite having him, she's felt lonely in recent years living alone. She doesn't get as much company as she'd like since family is spread out over the country. She is in need of encouragement, love, and hope for good days ahead, and would love to hear your thoughts on your favorite Agatha Christie novel, classic black-and-white film, or Legally Blonde— she loves Legally Blonde!

Vi
A note from Vi’s daughter: Vi will soon be 90 years old. She is originally from Washington, DC and currently lives near Williamsburg. She has lost 2 husbands, both of whom served in the military and are buried in Arlington Cemetery. As a wife of a Marine Corps officer, she was very active in the community. She served as president of the Jaycee's Wives and as a Girl Scout Leader, all while raising 6 kids and while our dad served overseas. She loves cooking and loved to learn about local cuisine while we lived in Hawaii and New Orleans. She is also an avid gardener and played tennis until Covid happened. She has since lost many of her friends. She lives alone, but due to age has limited activities away from home. I feel letters would be a wonderful way to connect her to more people in an impactful way, different and more meaningful than email, texting or Facebook.

Harriet
A note from Harriet’s daughter: Harriet is 89 years old and has Alzheimer's. She was an actress, well-known locally in NE Ohio, but Covid ended her career. She currently lives with her daughter after a near-fatal car accident a few years ago. While we spend as much time with her as possible, she still feels very lonely. Her friends are busy, and some are still working and aren't able to visit much. Harriet is an animal lover and is obsessed with checking for mail multiple times a day so receiving letters of love would be the perfect solution to hear from people around the world!

Geneva
A note from Geneva’s son: Geneva is 92 and was born, raised and still lives in Oxford, GA. Most of her family has passed away leaving her somewhat lonely. She spends most of her days sitting in front of her TV watching shows while her youngest son is her caretaker. She is feeble and doesn't get out much. She would love to receive cards and letters to help her not feel so isolated. She loves flowers, her favorite color is blue and she also loves a good laugh!

Pat B.
A note from Pat’s neighbor: Pat is a quiet pillar of wisdom and grace. Everyone who knows her is inspired by her strength and ability to find joy in the simple moments. As an elder, she has not been able to get out and do as much as she used to and at times gets lonely. Before retiring, Pat worked in the office of a local school. Her hobbies are studying genealogy, reading books and watching birds and squirrels out her window. She is especially fond of Ireland. Please help fill her day with letters of love!

Kathy M.
A note from Kathy M’s daughter: Kathy has been an avid outdoors woman for the majority of her life until Alzheimer's has taken most of that away. She has loved camping, hiking and kayaking. Currently living in Connecticut, it has also made it difficult to spend time outdoors with the cold winter weather. Kathy grew up in NJ and has 6 grandchildren across the country and she spent her tenure as a social worker assisting people with special needs. Please send her some uplifting notes to brighten her day.

Irene
A note from Irene’s great-niece: Irene is from Syracuse, New York and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to live closer to her daughter. Irene will be 101 in September, so please send her early birthday wishes! She is Polish and proud. She loves Polish food and music, interior decorating, beautiful homes, and lake life. She also loves music and movies from the 40s and 50s, and loves dancing. She is young at heart and loves being independent and going on long drives to look at beautiful homes. She appreciates good food, and some of her best recipes are her potato salad and spaghetti sauce. She has a big family that misses her and wants to encourage people to send her love as she settles into her new home.

Bob and Carol
A note from their child: Bob and Carol are recently retired. Bob has been substitute teaching and using his ham radio. Carol has been getting into art class and trying to relearn to drive. Both Bob and Carol have worked so hard their entire lives and I think knowing that they can relax and enjoy a little would be helpful to hear, as well as any encouragement to help brighten their day.

Carol and Gary
A note from their grandson: Carol and Gary celebrated their 50th anniversary, and through the past ten years have experienced many hardships in their lives. They took in their grandchildren to raise recently and have been working hard creating a life for them. As they have gotten older, visiting their family has gotten harder and harder. Winters are especially hard, as they are normally stuck at home for the majority of the season. They could use some kind words to help them know they are appreciated for all that they do and congratulate them on 50 years of marriage!

Debbie
A note from Debbie’s sister: Debbie is 70 years old. She loves to read and watch TV. She loves Star Trek, The A-Team, Scarecrow and Mrs. King and other older shows. She is a retired X-Ray Tech. She was born in Canada, but raised in Florida. Her health is declining and she feels like no one cares about her. She does not have much contact with anyone outside of her care providers, and she could really use some positive notes and letters to show people still care about her.

Christine
A note from Christine’s granddaughter: Christine is 86 years old. She was born and raised in Massachusetts, but spent most of her life in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania working in retail and as a homemaker. She enjoys counted cross-stitch, playing dominos, watching soap operas, diving into a good book, and gardening. She is also an amazing cook and baker! Christine and her late husband, Luke, spent the past 20 years in Florida where they made many friends and were very involved with their community. After his sudden passing, Christine had to say goodbye to her Florida home and move back to Pennsylvania. While she is closer to family, she is definitely in need of some cheer after losing her partner, her home, her friends, her active social life, and the warm climate. Currently, she is settling into her new home and starting to build a new group of friends in her new community. Christine finds joy in her 11 children, 23 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren. Receiving letters would really lift Christine's spirits as she navigates the upcoming anniversary of Luke's passing.

Kathy E.
A note from Kathy’s grandchild: Kathy spends her days watching TV shows, ranging from Days of Our Lives to The Walking Dead. She also enjoys reading, particularly James Patterson novels. Her favorite musician is Post Malone, and she saw him in concert for the first time this summer! She was born and raised in Kingsford, Michigan, where her father was the mayor. She still lives there now, in the house she and her husband, Donn, built together and lived in with their 3 children for many years. Kathy lost her son Jacob 20 years ago, when he was only 16, and her husband last April. She has had trouble adjusting to living alone. I think that the letters would be an amazing pick me up for her in this troubling time.
