What is a Kindness Ambassador?

Kindness Ambassadors are amazing, all-around rockstars who bring Love For Our Elders into their communities. As a Kindness Ambassador, you’ll join a group of more than 1,000 individuals passionate about our mission.

I enjoy helping students at my son Julian's school write letters. Each time I help a student write a letter, I feel closer to my own grandmother, Grandma Thelma, who spent the last few years of her life lonely in a nursing home. ~Rayna K.

How can I be a Kindness Ambassador?

Being an ambassador means that you meaningfully support Love For Our Elders. After reviewing our site, you can begin helping.

  1. Organize a letter drive: Set up a sign and box in a local school, business, or library, with permission from the establishment. Consider leaving stationery and pens. Consider choosing 2 or 3 of this month’s elders to feature on a sign, or use ours. Follow up with the establishment or check in on the letters once per week. Then, mail the letters at the end of the month.

  2. Host or join a letter-writing social: Letter-writing is better with friends! Grab your stationery, pens, music, and snacks. Then, invite friends or find new writing buddies by organizing an event at a library or cafe.

  3. Read Grandma’s Letter Exchange in a classroom: Offer to read Read moreour book and guide letter-writing at a local school. Find a copy of Grandma’s Letter Exchange at a library or retailer. Then, contact a pre-K or elementary school classroom teacher who has taught you or a loved one and set a date.

  4. Celebrate Letter to an Elder Day: Join us on February 26 for our national holiday. Write letters and share the day with local media and organizations.

  5. Start a chapter: If you’re a student in high school or college, consider starting or joining a letter-writing chapter at your school.

  6. Fundraise: Support our programs with a Facebook fundraiser, bake sale, etc.

  7. Join our team: View our job & internship postings to see if your experience and skills match.

With any of these volunteer opportunities, you can amplify your impact by capturing photos or videos and submitting to our team. We’d love to share to inspire other ambassadors and volunteers!
