What is a group volunteer event?

A group volunteer event is best when it takes the form of what we call a letter-writing social. It’s a fun way to engage your group— writing letters while chatting, listening to good music, and of course, snacks. You can host your own with this guide.*

*Responsible company volunteering includes the expectation that companies make a donation (BrightFunds recommends $10 per volunteer hour) and include us on their corporate giving platforms. As a volunteer-run initiative, we rely on donations to fund our programs and outreach.

Can you help my company with our event?

Yes! Working directly with a nonprofit is ideal for creating a high-impact volunteer experience, and one of our favorite aspects of our work. It helps connect volunteers to the organization and the volunteer experience. We offer two options, both virtual and in-person:

  1. Guided letter-writing social: We provide a day-of itinerary, materials list, a planning video call, and invite our founder to speak. Depending on the size of the group, we may also make a special list of elders to write to, who need your company’s support. We’ll take care of everything — all you have to do is rally your team and enjoy!

  2. Guest speaker: Host your own event, and invite our founder to speak about the organization’s story and why our work matters.

What people say:

"Jacob has a way of inspiring folks and moving them toward compassionate service. His talks are shot through with stories, data, and effective appeals that impress upon listeners the width of the problem and the simplicity of the solution. I highly recommend him!" - Jason Craige Harris, Perception

“Jacob was eloquent, captivating, and deeply sincere about the Love for Our Elders initiative and its underlying drive. Hearing his personal anecdotes left a great impression on us, serving as a poignant reminder of the significance and value our elders hold within our communities.” - Del Brown, Pillsbury Law

“It was a feel-good break in the day to spend time writing the letters as a team where we shared really special moments about each other’s connections with our own elders that will be cherished forever.” - Robert Padron, Arise
