Sonia

A note from Sonia’s daughter: Sonia is from a small town far south of Chicago. She loves making quilts on her sewing machine for the local veterans facility near her home but is losing her sight slowly. She lost her husband Ron of 64 years and nine months and is missing him everyday. Her ever shrinking world at 87 is in need of a lift me up and any joy would help.

Edna & Agnes

A note from Edna and Agnes’ great niece: Edna and Agnes are sisters who both never married or had kids and live together. They love genealogy and spending time with family and friends– anyone who meets them instantly loves them and are embraced like family. They have both recently been dealing with health problems and are not able to leave the house as much. This has been difficult for them as they are very social and love meeting new people. They also love puzzles, card games, The Hallmark channel and movies, and traveling (esp. England and Scotland!). They would absolutely love to receive letters to make new friends during a time when they can’t as easily socialize.

Please label “Edna’s bundle” or “Agnes’ bundle” and send to:

Sharon

A note from Sharon’s daughter: Sharon has had a rough 18 months losing both my dad (married almost 60 years) and my brother both to sudden heart attacks. My mom loved to travel– she and my dad saw the world– but with mobility issues that’s become harder.  She’s an avid reader and cannot miss her Hallmark movies every night, but she can get lonely especially in the winter. I still work full time with the public so I can’t be there (with the pandemic) as much as I would like to. I think letters from all over would cheer her up!

Barbara

A note from Barbara’s daughter: My mother is a Midwest woman with a strong faith who just celebrated her 80th birthday and became a widow in 2020 after being the primary care giver of her husband. Her husband suffered with stage 4 cancer for 7 years. They were high school sweet hearts married for 60 years. This loss has left a deep hole in her life. She tries to stay busy with her crafts and crochet and still sends card through the mail to friends and loved ones. She loves to receive them as well because “they are more personal and meaningful.” She is struggling with her own health declining and feeling down especially when the night falls. Receiving cards and thoughts of encouragement would lift her spirits.

Vera

A note from Vera’s daughter: Vera lives in Southern Oregon. She loves plants, inside or outside, which she calls her “babies” and they mean everything to her. Her African violets were started from her mother's plants in 1980. She is missing social interaction due to her Alzheimer's diagnosis and COVID-19. She would love to hear from you!

Kitty

A note from Kitty’s granddaughter: The perfect night at Grandma's house is filled with Jane Austen movies and Pie (specifically key lime!). She loves her family and spending time with her sons and sisters. She has been able to go to Florida a couple times recently with her sisters! She plays bridge with her friends and loves to read (all types of books!). She is the absolute tidiest person I know.  If you have a tough stain– I promise she would be able to fix it! She is from North Carolina and recently moved into an assisted living facility near my parents. She really likes it (one of her best friends moved in too!) but the past two years have been tough on her. She loves snail mail and I know some letters would absolutely brighten her day!

Margaret

A note from Margaret’s granddaughter: My grandma is one of the people I look up to most. She is like my second mother. She raised 6 children by herself after her husband passed away and also became a nurse. She is very proud of her nursing career and she still sees some of her nursing friends for lunch, but very rarely. Like many, my Grandma has been hit hard with loneliness throughout these past couple of years. My Grandma is Superwoman and has defied all odds by surviving pancreatic cancer. After all she has been through I wish I could keep her from ever being lonely. She loves to do word searches and watch cooking shows like the Barefoot Contessa. She also loves Joanna Gains! Oh, and she LOVES chocolate, she likes to eat some every single day! She loves Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. She also loves holidays but has had a hard time dealing with how the holidays have looked lately. It would mean the world to me for others to show her how much she matters. She also loved to travel so postcards are great as well!
