Karen

A note from Karen’s granddaughter: My Grandma Karen is a remarkable 91-year-old lady who was born and raised in Minnesota. My Grandpa died in March and they would've been married 70 years in June! Throughout their lives together, my grandparents shared countless adventures, from motorcycle trips to spirited games of dice and cards. Did I mention she's a marvelous cook and lived on a lake for 40 years? While she has a few family members who love her dearly in Minnesota, most of us are in Colorado. I'd love for her to feel the same love she's given to so many. I can just see the smile on her face as she shares the letters and cards with the other ladies at the Assisted Living!

Mary S.

A note from Mary S’s granddaughter: My nana is an absolute spitfire of a woman. She is strong and feisty - having raised 3 kids on her own, working multiple jobs and raising the amazing man that is my dad. Nana loved hiking, skiing, and cycling but she had a stroke more than 15 years and lost the majority of function in her left side. She has had so many surgeries and fights everyday to stay positive living in a long term care facility. She still loves going to the movies, to the theater, and spending time with her grandkids and 3 great grandchildren!!! Please send nana some love to help stay positive!

Joyce

A note from Joyce’s daughter: Joyce loves to garden and golf during the summer, loves her two doggies and living on a beautiful Farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. Unfortunately all of Joyce’s family lives far away from her so a mailbox full of letters would just brighten her day so much… she gets lonely and bored out on the Farm and winters are long and snowy!! She is an avid painter and her house walls are covered with her beautiful creations. She has four granddaughters and loves them all very much.

Joan

A note from Joan’s granddaughter: Joan is in her 90s and is sweet as can be. She lived most of her adult life on Edisto Island, SC, where she lived with her husband of over 70 years, Charles. A few years ago, they both moved to be closer to family in a Tennessee assisted living home. Our papa, Charles, unfortunately fell and passed away last year and now she's living alone. She is a Christian and loves to cook, bake and travel. She has visited tons of super cool places and is a super sweet woman - I hope you'll consider writing to her to help brighten her day!

Joyce D.

A note from Joyce’s granddaughter: Joyce just turned 91 this May. Joyce is more active at "almost" 91 than most 20 year olds. She loves to play cards and games with her friends, she dances at the elks lodge, she has lunch dates and attends church on Sundays. She is busy almost everyday of the week and is shocked when she feels a bit tired! I try to tell her you are allowed to be tired at 91 years old. Her husband passed many years ago but she surrounds herself with friends, family and neighbors. She has been a bit sad recently as many of her friends, neighbors and family members have passed away. She asked me recently, "Why am I still here?". I told her she has a purpose everyday to bring a smile to others. I am hoping you will help me make her smile and remind her while she is still here with your letters!

Ann

A note from Ann’s granddaughter: My Grandma Ann lives in a very small town called Winchester, IN. Her town and home were recently destroyed by a tornado. Luckily Ann was in Florida during the tornado but she is now displaced. For now, Ann is staying with her daughter in Winchester. Her daughter also recently lost her husband, so it has been a trying time. Ann is trying hard to stay positive through all the struggles though. Ann is ridiculously good at golf and card games. She loves sunny warm weather, gardening, and spends a lot of time with her 8 Great Grandchildren. Ann misses her late husband Doug more than anything and wishes he was here to lend some motivation during this time. I am certain some kind letters would really lift her spirits.

Eloise and Kevin

A note from their granddaughter: Eloise and Kevin have been married for around 35 years, and they're the sweetest couple ever. My Pop Pop loves Star Wars and he has every movie in his DVD collection. He also loves puzzles and anything that can be put together. He owns a ton of sarcastic shirts and has a good time wearing them in public to make people laugh. My Grammy loves to garden and swim, but her Lupus makes those a little difficult these days. She loves going to church (and brunch after) and cooking amazing dinners for the family. They both go out of their way for others constantly, and would absolutely love getting some love back!

Mary Jane

A note from Mary Jane’s grandson: Mary Jane (lovingly called Gigi by most of her family and neighborhood) just turned 71 in July, and is from West Virginia. She lives in Kentucky now, and loves cooking and baking, though due to some health issues she isn't able to be in the kitchen much anymore. She also loves binging TV and movies, and we always have something new to watch together when I visit. She's had animals my whole life, and adores cats and dogs. My favorite memories with her are of the holidays - which Gigi loves - because she goes above and beyond with her decorating. She would love to hear from you by mail!

Mary A.

A note from Mary A’s granddaughter: My grandmother is a retired elementary school teacher. Since retirement, one of her joys in life is receiving letters from family and friends. My grandmother enjoys reading, coloring, taking care of her many plants and spending time with loved ones. The last couple of years her eyesight has gotten worse and she has been having difficulty navigating the world outside her home. I know she would very much enjoy sitting down with a cup of tea to read over thoughtful letters addressed to her.

Edith

A note from Edith’s daughter: My mom grew up in CT and later moved to Long Island, New York, but retiring in North Carolina. My dad passed away three years after we moved. It was not an easy time for my mom to adjust to a new house, new town and then to take care of my dad. It made her social life very small. She enjoys seeing her grandchildren and painting with watercolors. We drive her to doctor appointments and watercolor class at the senior center once a month. She has gotten lonely with no one to take care of or talk to— she was married to my dad for 57 years when he passed away in 2019, and he had Alzheimers, which was hard. She visits upstairs with us but doesn't go out much. Her social circle is extremely small. She loves flowers, painting, TV and socializing. A letter would brighten her day and put a smile on her face.
