Community Engagement Intern (volunteer, 2 Hours/Week, remote)

Overview:
Love For Our Elders is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading love to isolated older adults through heartfelt, handwritten letters. We are seeking a Community Engagement Intern to help us manage communication with our volunteers, donors, and community partners. This is an unpaid volunteer position, eligible for volunteer hours, or college credit if your school accepts it. The start date is flexible, with a minimum 6-month commitment.

Role:
The Community Engagement Intern will respond to inquiries from volunteers, donors, companies, schools, and press through our contact form, using an internal FAQ document to provide accurate, compassionate answers. This role also involves updating our FAQ document, contributing to the growing FAQ section on our website, and assisting with community engagement activities such as social media outreach and donor appreciation.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to incoming inquiries promptly and professionally.

  • Assist in maintaining and expanding the FAQ on our website and internal FAQ document.

  • Support volunteer recruitment and engagement through social media, outreach, and education efforts

  • Support the Executive Director with additional communication, engagement, and administrative tasks as needed.

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and responsibly with minimal or no supervision.

  • Passion for community engagement and helping others.

  • Experience with nonprofit or volunteer work is a plus but not required.

  • Familiarity with TikTok is a bonus.

Full-Stack Web Developer (Hourly/Part-Time, paid, Remote)

Overview: Love For Our Elders is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading love to isolated older adults through heartfelt, handwritten letters. We are seeking a skilled Full-Stack Web Developer to join our mission of connecting people to isolated seniors by automating parts of our letter request and data management processes on our website. This role involves creating automated workflows, integrating APIs, and building a simple but powerful system for collecting and displaying letter requests.

Project: Letter Request and Data Management System

Role: As a Full-Stack Developer, you’ll be responsible for enhancing our website by implementing new features that allow users to post and view letter requests for seniors. This includes building an automated approval and address verification system and ensuring a smooth user experience for both nominators and letter-writers.

Engagement details:

  • Flexible hourly schedule, remote position.

  • Minimum of 2 hours overlap with UTC -04:00 preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Automate letter request submission and display workflows using JavaScript and Squarespace.

  • Implement API integrations for address validation and automated email responses.

  • Set up a secure system to manage and track letter requests, ensuring sensitive information is protected.

  • Ensure that letter requests can be updated on the backend as needed.

  • Automate email confirmations.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proficiency in JavaScript and API integrations.

  • Experience with CMS platforms, particularly Squarespace.

  • Familiarity with email marketing tools such as Mailchimp.

  • Knowledge of Google Maps API or similar for address validation.

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.

Native Speaker Translator (volunteer, 1 project, ~2 hours total)

Overview:
Love For Our Elders is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading love to isolated older adults through heartfelt, handwritten letters. We are seeking native speakers of non-English languages to help translate educational slides, ensuring our resources are accessible to a global audience. This is an unpaid volunteer position, eligible for volunteer hours or college credit if your school accepts it.

Role:
The Native Speaker Translator will translate educational slides from English into their native language while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and cultural relevance.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate educational slides from English to your native language.

  • Ensure translations are accurate, culturally appropriate, and easy to understand.

  • Review and proofread translations for clarity and consistency.

What we’re looking for:
